[Paddlewise] to warm your feelings with a familiar old subject..

When visiting the shed of my club I recently did found two of the
memberīs new sea kayaks equipped with b o t h a skeg &
a rudder. So - to just warm you up - seems that they had got the
solution to this very dear subject of ourīs: why not have them both!
  :-)

To me this seems to make everything much more complicated:
besides sharing your concentration between the sea and your paddle
moves, you are more bound to pay attention to your equipment.
I do personally could find it quite dangerous in some situations,
even if the other member of this duo is very experienced: more than
4000 kilometres last season, and more than 15000 kmīs during last
three. Quite a lot of it solo.

He had problems with rescuing the other last summer (turning around
in breaking waves, donīt know the wind, must have been more than 16
metres/second), so that might be the reason for this all, but, but...

I have this feeling of making things a little bit of too
complicated. Too much to work with, if you get my meaning.

Comments? Anyone familiar with the combination, as for an example in
rough weather? Surf?
