>> Can a foot operated pump be conveniently mounted and operated when a rudder is also installed? >> ************************************************************************** * That depends. The push plate should be mounted between the footbraces at about the same distance from the seat or maybe an inch closer. In my kayak (a Romany) the pump is mounted to the bulkhead. However, the hoses stick out horizontally, limiting how far forward the footbraces can be adjusted. This might be a problem with movable footbraces. One could try mounting the pump and hoses above the footbraces or mounting it so the hoses are vertical. In the latter case the discharge would be on the foredeck, so you would spout like a whale! The forward bulkhead in my kayak is mounted about three inches further aft than normal. In my wife's kayak, which has a standard bulkhead, the pump is mounted on a wooden closet rod that is fiberglassed into the kayak, and the closet rod also limits the travel of the footbraces. The Henderson pump, BTW, is about four inches deep.
