On the topic of Canadian ballast rocks or whatever kind of ballast one employs the following story offers an interesting caution for the need to make certain whatever ballast one carries is secure, and not apt to move. Last night on Access television I watched a documentry on a Swedish Ship (I believe it's name was Kronos) which capsized when it attempted a radical rudder turn and the ballast shifted (which included on deck cannon). This was a tall massive ship. All hands were lost. The moral of both stories is obvious. Anyway, a interesting piece of maritime history, John Winters could probably elaborate on. http://pc-78-120.udac.se:8001/WWW/Nautica/Seamanship/Shingle.html Cheers, Philip *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net ***************************************************************************Received on Mon Feb 16 1998 - 06:55:20 PST
