I was feeling pretty invincible till I was passed by 3 60-80 foot boats in a narrow strech of the intracoastal in Boca Raton. There seems to be something unusual about this particular stretch where even one small boat 20Ft will get the water churning. There are sea walls on both sides and it's not a no wake zone. The drawbridges that cross the Intracoastal every 1.5 to 2 miles causes boat traffic to stack up and the big ones all go by in a group. In this case the two groups met going opposite directions just where I was paddling. I was in my Seda Impulse which I had only paddled for a week or so. After the boats passed I had about 30 seconds of 4-5 foot waves coming from every direction and I was over... That's the day I figured out how to do a paddle float rescue with the float I had purchased the day before... I'm still not sure that I could stay upright in those conditions today but I'm a lot closer to getting my roll working. cya Bob Denton Vice President Undersea Breathing Systems bob_at_dnax.com http://www.dnax.com *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net ***************************************************************************Received on Wed Feb 18 1998 - 06:28:00 PST
