I've never heard of a sculling roll, do you just do a strong skulling stroke to work yourself back up? Almost sounds to simple, though it does sound like it might actually work? >>> ******************************************************************* That's it. Just assume your normal sculling position while upside down and start sculling. You will rotate to the surface, from which you can brace yourself up. If you are using a feathered paddle, it might work best in an extended position to keep the other blade from working against you. The easiest way to learn it is to lay your kayak over while sculling till your head is touching the water, then scull or brace up from there. When you are comfortable with that, then lay the kayak over further till your head is in the water, and scull up from there. Keep going deeper as you get used to it, and pretty soon you will be sculling up from a 180-degree position. My wife resisted trying it while she was learning the sweep roll because she thought it might confuse her. The first time she tried it, though, she sculled up and said, "That's not a roll; it's too easy! That's just sculling!" I figure, though, that if it gets you up, it must be a roll, no matter how easy it is.
