Just to cover all the bases on this kayak volume thing: You put your cockpit cover on the yak and move it into your house. Then, working from blueprints, you compute the volume of your house. Then remove all the furniture and other belongings and fill the house with water through a hose run down the chimney. When your water bill comes at the end of the billing cycle, go to your computer and average your water use for the past five years. Subtract this average figure from your current, "kayak volume" month. Convert the volume of your house from cubic feet to gallons and subtract the current volume usage of water noted on the utility bill in question from the gallon volume of your house. (Some utilities bill water use in cubic feet, if so you're in luck and you need not convert your house volume to gallons.) Anyway, the difference between your house volume and your water consumption --adjusted for normal usage-- will provide you with the volume of your kayak. Or you can buy several 100 lb. bags of rice . . . *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net ***************************************************************************
Well...great. Thanks for the volume measuring tips, everybody. I tried the suggestion from George B. because it sounded easy while we're having Dreaded El Nino Storms (DENS) here. When my SO (for you Canucks, that would be SE; Spousal Equivalent) got home it was REALLY hard to convince her of the need to know the volume of the *%#_at_!! kayak (and previously she was very fond of it...and me). Ah well. >///:>Chris Hardenbrook<:\\\< Homeless in Southern California *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net ***************************************************************************
