Two more lurkers delurking; we were beginning paddlers twenty years ago when we married and we have been paddling together happily ever since. Our skill levels are equivalent and our tastes and caution levels are similar, but the smaller person IS slower - and compromises have been negotiated on both sides. We found that it helps to make sure that the smaller/slower person has the faster boat - and it also helps that she (in this case) uses a Greenland paddle - making it easier for the less strong paddler to keep up in speed and in distance. The boats we paddle are a Necky Looksha IV in plastic (for the 6'2" 200 lb. paddler) and the new Necky Looksha IVS - the low volume version with a nice low foredeck and a real rocket ship for speed - in fiberglass (for the 5'6" 150 lb. paddler). We also have a Necky Santa Cruz as a knockaround in the surf, guest and lesson, take-the-dog along boat - and will be buying another Santa Cruz this summer - it's the first "recreational" boat we've found that's actually fun for experienced paddlers. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net ***************************************************************************
