If you're really serious about catch and release, take a tip from flyfishers who frequent C&R trout waters: use barbless hooks or, since most readily available hooks are barbed, use a pair of pliers to bend the barb down. A "debarbed" hook can be twisted out of a fish's mouth with a minimum of difficulty. Will you lose more fish with "debarbed" hooks? In my experience, no. I've been using "debarbed" hooks for years.
