This is probably not news for many readers of this list, but perhaps the
eulogies may now begin.

There has been a short discussion over on r.b.p. bemoaning the dearth of
sea kayaking-related postings, and a dramatic decrease in their quality
over the last year or so. OTOH, the WW-component of r.b.p. seems to be
very active and as healthy as can be expected.

I posted a brief mention that lists like this one were now filling the
need formerly served by r.b.p. The result was many folks emailed me
directly requesting subscription information. I've been sending out
subscription info for both Paddlewise and Wave~Length, filtering obvious
kooks.

It will be interesting to see what happens over on r.b.p.

BTW, I did NOT post subscription info on r.b.p. -- I make 'em email me
to get it. Damn spam!

I've seen it. It is really unfortunate because it used to be a great
place for sea kayakers to hang out on the net.

r.b.p. deteriorated in the last year for sea kayakers to the point there
was hardly any point in looking at it. It seemd most of the sea kayakers
migrated to lists because of the fracas.

I would say it is ok to give subscription info on the newsgroup for
PaddleWise. I've done that for GASP without problem. We have some
pretty good deterrents working to prevent spamming of PaddleWise. :-)

Cheers,

I think the death of rec.boats.paddle may be exaggerated. ;-)

The newsgroup has been around for a long time -- I remember when we
all got together to get it created many years ago -- and has survived
any number of...uh...disagreements, including the ejection of the rowing
crowd, who-knows-how-many flame wars over PWC, invasions by He Who
Must Not Be Named, and about a zillion other things. I imagine that it
will continue to limp forward unless something truly catastrophic happens.
