Does anyone have any information on expected weather conditions in Big
Bend N.P. in April?  We are not planning on paddling but doing some
backpacking.

Probably a lot of people here are going to think this is a strange question
on a paddling group :-)  But that's a favorite paddling spot in Texas...
the Rio Grande.  I've only gone swimming there... (no more 8-} and paddled
a little on Boquillas Canyon, but I hear there are some really nice runs 
through the canyons.   

I've been there in April.  The weather was great, the desert in full 
bloom with spring flowers just after the rains.  Cold at night.  Fun
to paddle across Boquillas Canyon and ride the donkeys up to Boquillas.
My guess is to be prepared for spring rains and gully washers.  Probably
the Big Bend National Park Head Quarters could give you more info for
average weather.  But then, I don't think there is going to be anything
average about the weather this spring due to El Nino 8-}
