By "old fashioned" I mean any traditional narrow blade, wood, Greenland style paddle such as those available from Superior Kayaks or Betsie Bay. If anything, they are modern versions of northern Inuit paddles, which typically have long looms and relatively short, leaf-shaped blades. Compare this to the Greenland paddle, which has a relatively short loom and long, narrow, tapering blades designed for use with the sliding stroke.
