Any pointers would be appreciated. >> Well, if any of you are in the central New Jersey area, I have a small company which focusus on sea kayak instruction called Katabasis. In addition to running private and group lessons, I also teach paddlemaking. At the workshop there is a choice of different paddles you can make. A traditional Greenland paddle, A Newcastle (different type of Greenland paddle), a Storm paddle and a throwing stick. In addition, I have found many people wanting to make a Greenland skin boat but were afraid to spend the $400 to $500 for materials and have it come out poorly. I make two size Greenland model kits to build. You make them pretty much the same way you make the full size ones (I have made two full size Greenland kayaks). One advantage to making the model is that if you screw it up, you haven't wasted all that money. If you can't make the model, don't try a full size boat. If you have any questions call at 732-928-4018 or e-mail kayakillen_at_aol.com. If you're in the NJ, Phila area this weekend, visit Paddlesport '98 in Pennsauken NJ. Call Jersey Paddler at 732-458-5777 for directions. Stop at the ANorAK table and see The full size and model kayaks on display.
