Hey, if you were on a racing surf ski like mine, wearing a wetsuit for the
cold, you'd just climb back on , EASILY, and start paddling again.  Or you
could wear a dry suit, to stay warm, and just climb back on....I don't think
you need a cockpit/skirt system in an ocean boat---its more dangerous, and
not advantageous. And they make it tough to use the boat for snorkeling,
which is a spectacular use for kayaks..... For III and IV  white water, I'll
take the cock pit and spray skirt boat every time.
