Today I paddled in the rain with the temperatures in the 50s. Even though
there were a lot of anglers on the lake, I saw more birds than I usually
do, so it wasn't a bad trip. However, when I was loading my Dagger
Meridian on my truck, my hands slipped and I dropped the boat. Now I've
got to repair a gouge in the gel coat. The fiberglass cloth is exposed but
not damaged. What do I use on a Meridian? Do I need to get something
special from Dagger?

Bob

Bob Perkins asked about repairing dings in his boat recently, and
another thread talked about installing a mast step in a composite
boat. I've done some repair and rebuilding jobs, but working with
fiberglas and epoxies is tricky. Gougeon Brothers --- West Systems
--- in Bay City, MI publishes a good guide book for folks taking their
first crack at epoxy repair work which can be found in most good
boating supply stores for a few bucks. Well worth having with your
     repair gear.

They also have a website, <www.westsystem.com> (note: that's "system",
singular) and publish a free subscription to a newsletter that is
great to have --- lots of projects, tips, etc. (Outside the US and
Canada, it's $4.00 US by Mastercard or Visa --- although they used to
say that they'd accept foreign currency "... if it has interesting
artwork on it (especially wildlife art) ...") It's that kind of
     place, I guess.

Good luck with the repairs and installations --- but take the safety
advice very literally. Those chemicals can be very nasty. But, used
properly and safely, it's great stuff!
