So it makes you wonder why they don't make the battery compartment
tubular, or at least the opening. Get some good industrial designers on that!

On another note... I just purchased a Garmin GPS 48. The guys I bought it
from were sure it was waterproof (at least as waterproof as the 12XL).
I'm not so sure. I can't find anything in the manual or on the website that
gives me much of a clue either. The manual does state that the case is
watertight according to XXXXX coastguard spec (don't have the manual with me
right now). Before I give it the bathtub test I'd like to hear from the
experts here. The 48 is basically an updated 45XL, same case. Someone give
me the straight dope.
