My opinion which only matters to my self some times and other times I don't even want to hear it ,is A kayak ain't a sailboat and visa versa. I do not look for the ultimate sailing rig in a kayak , it is just another method to get under way if everything works out. I do paddle a sail boat some times, well really row, a Sea Pearl 21 and it ain't no fun but with no motor it is the best way. I sailed umbrellas, garbage bags, and kites( Sutton Flow Form Parafoil Kite) with a gadget I made that holds a balloon inside two of the chambers so if it hits the water it don't sink. I wish it would take off from the water but it don't.Most of these expensive kites are BIG (18-20 ft.)and not some thing on the spur of the moment to pull out of a hatch and launch.I have umbrella raced in canoes, not the ultimate but fun. If I really want to only sail then a sailboat is it .But try it you will like it if you do it for fun and not form and function.
