Off the "ginger snap" but on the seasickness idea, another method of combating seasickness that works well for some are the acupressure wrist bands sold in boating supply stores. (One trade name is Sea-Band, and runs between $7 and $10.) At least they work well for me. Most of my time at sea with the Navy was aboard aircraft carriers, which tend not to move around much. But when I was aboard our "small boys" --- destroyers, frigates --- or when I'm working an open ocean research project in a 40 foot survey vessel --- these bands have always eliminated the queaziness associated with wave motion (which is as bad as it's ever been). Never have had a problem in big water in kayaks --- probably too tense to feel sick!
