[Paddlewise] Re spare paddle

I  carry a reserve paddle that is truly an "el cheapo"--a aluminum
shaft/plastic blade canoe paddle that my son and I shortened by measuring
the shaft, sawing off the excess with a hacksaw, and then reattaching the
plastic T-grip.  It's crude but effective.  The one time I lost my regular
paddle in a pin (downed timber), my reserve paddle got me home.
