I carry a reserve paddle that is truly an "el cheapo"--a aluminum shaft/plastic blade canoe paddle that my son and I shortened by measuring the shaft, sawing off the excess with a hacksaw, and then reattaching the plastic T-grip. It's crude but effective. The one time I lost my regular paddle in a pin (downed timber), my reserve paddle got me home. Bob -------------------------------------------------- Robert C.
