It has been mentioned that you can fit the ICOM IC-M1 VHF in a PFD
pocket. Do you have to first remove the antenna? Would that make it no
longer waterproof? And will the model with the larger battery (IC-M1+)
still fit in the PFD pocket?

I have a deep pocket on my Palm PFD that the body of the radio fits
into, but the antenna still sticks out of one corner. Screwing the
antenna firmly onto the radio apparently helps keep water away from
the connection, but whether this helps to waterproof the electronics
or merely helps to preserve the electrical characteristics of the
antenna, I don't know. I suspect the latter. About the IC-M1+, I don't
know. (It would depend on the size of your pocket in any case.)
