[Paddlewise] Killing 5 billion ???? -Reply

To add to what Michael said, 

Every big corporation in the world is attempting to export the western
lifestyle to the other 4 billion people on the planet. Even if the population
remains constant (projections indicate doubling in india, Africa and China
in within the next 20 years) the planet can not support this. 

However, I think we should get as many people interested in the
outdoors as possible. Otherwise the big corporations will do as they
will, because the people will be in city worring about traffic. We may
loose some beautiful parts this way but I think it's the only way to same
most of it.

To clarify;

I do not advocate killing 5 billion people to solve our environmental
problems. That would cause as many problems as it would solve.
The rotting bodies, lack of services, destruction of needed services 
would all result in a big mess.

I still maintain that overpopulation is THE SOURCE PROBLEM!

No matter what else we do, if we do not reduce the human population
we will not keep anything like a natural world most of us seem to
like.
