[Paddlewise] Stern lines

Stern lines?  To keep tension on the bow lines.
Bow lines?   To keep tension on the stern lines.

Stern lines?  To keep the bow from kissing my hood ornament and blocking
my view.
Bow lines?   To keep the stern from bumping the trunk.

What about the middle?  I thought the bow & stern lines were for failure
in the middle.
