1. I've set up a web page that has links to most of the resources of interest to paddlers in/near Pennsylvania -- things like gauges, clubs, river descriptions, etc.; it can be found on the web at: http://www.itw.com/~rsk/whitewater.html Comments and corrections welcome. Please note that the page itself doesn't have much real information: it's just a collection of links to the sites that do. 2. I've started a web site for the Penn Cup race series; it'll gradually be assembled at: http://www.itw.com/~rsk/penncup Somebody had to do it sooner or later. ;-) Seriously, though, the Penn Cup has been a wonderful experience for me since I happened on it some years ago, and I've derived so much enjoyment from it that I'd like to be able to give something back. This seemed like a good way. 3. I've also started to assemble a web site for the Keystone Canoe Club, which is based in and around Reading, PA. There's just a little bit of information there now, but I'm adding to it bit by bit on a daily basis, so it will be growing into a full site over the next month or so. It's at: http://www.itw.com/~rsk/keystone 4. Many clubs have hotlines that are used for "pick-up trips" -- unplanned trips that come together when it starts raining and somebody notices that the gauge on a favorite river is at just the right level for a run. There's now a mailing list that serves the same purpose for paddlers in and near Pennsylvania. I figured I'd try this as an experiment and see how it goes. You can get yourself on it by sending mail to: pa-ww-hotline-request_at_gsp.org It works the same way as most Internet mailing lists: whatever you send out goes to everyone else on the mailing list. My hope is that people will be able to use this as a quick, low-overhead way to put trips together. I figure to run it for the 1998 paddling season and then evaluate how things have gone in the fall. 5. I've revived the old, original Internet whitewater mailing list that was started by Charles Daffinger well over a decade ago. It fell into my hands in the early 90's after Charles was unfortunately killed in a spelunking accident, but I was unable to keep it going for a variety of technical and administrative reasons. Well, it's back on the air again and you can join it via: whitewater-request_at_gsp.org There are currently about 300 people on the mailing list, scattered all over the world.
