I got a mesage from Mr Sponson Head (1) where his last name was misspelled so that it made it through my filters. It is probably someone's bad taste April fools joke. Not everyone in this list lives in the USA; outside of McDonald's and Microsoft country April 1 is a day just like any other and those kinds of jokes are not appreciated, so please be considerate to our international friends on this list. Just as a side note, in many countries the "fools day" is Dec 28. That means that a large percentage of people in California has to put up with 2 fool's days a year. - Julio (1) full of air, or empty when not being used :-) *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************

Actually, I heard on the radio this morning that it's known as "April Fish" in France and Italy, and is a much *bigger* deal there than here. They were explaining it originally had to do with the changeover of the New Year celebration from March 22 to January 1. Supposedly people give out chocolate fishes too after the practical jokes are played. Wish I'd known about April Fish last year - remember Jackie's fish story? It was just too funny when someone took the bait that time! Then again, maybe April Fish is a radio April Fool's joke on me! Hmm, the more I think about this, the more plausible that sounds... *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************

I think he did it on purpose because he got through my filters, too. :-O > Not everyone in this list lives in the USA; outside of McDonald's > and Microsoft country April 1 is a day just like any other and those > kinds of jokes are not appreciated, so please be considerate to our > international friends on this list. Actually, it is believed that April Fools Day has it's roots in French history (long before computers :-) and was eventually adopted by the English and Scottish and then brought to America. Americans were a bit slow to get the joke :-) > Just as a side note, in many countries > the "fools day" is Dec 28. Though he has tried several times, "Mr. Sponson Head" hasn't been able to get through to PaddleWise. btw, not only is Tim's last name mispelled, the email address and URL are wrong. But the content is real quotes from Tim (taken from many different messages of his of which he provided us multitudes that were equally as "coherent" :-) A PPPPPP RRRRRR IIIII L A A P P R R I L AAAAA PPPPP RRRRR I L A A P R R I L A A P R R IIIII LLLLLL FFFFFF OOOOOO OOOOOO L ssssss ! My fools day started yesterday at 5.30 am when some s**thead was trying to break into my neighbourīs apartment :-( After that it was really fascinating to come back to work and find this all sp*****n mail of Tim again in the list. Actually, it almost made me to wet my pants... THEN: My query about non-States paddlers in the list has been disappointing: only 6 answers. I am SURE that there are also other lurkers than all the Canadians who were not answering [Eric, John, I know that you are there, so I didnīt actually expect you to answer ;-)]. I am sorry, maybe I didnīt make my point clear? This has nothing to do with commercial matters, it comes from pure curiosity and NO new mailing lists or any activity against fabulous paddlewisers is planned :-p -I wrote in March: > Helloyou all again - something came to my mind last night: > > Is this list mainly North American? > How many of us all are European "overseas" subscribers? > > Europeans and also other kayakers than Yankees, please send me > personal e-mail, I am forwarding the results to Jackie & the list > after a while... However, as the kayakers spring fever with all this technical ranting is going on, I am lurking in the shadows for a while. Some stories will be following, as soon as the ice has left the shores: I am negotiating about a sponsorship with a dry-suit manufacturer.
