Usually a nylon sock that hooks over the cockpit rim and slides into the
boat. It reduces the amount of water that can enter the boat after a
capsize. I modified my commercial version by putting loops for shock cord
on the top and sides to keep it from laying on my skinny legs (the sock
feels clammy) . A pod is a rigid version of the sock. I think they are
great but the Puffin is the only commercially available boat that I have
seen them on here in Canada. You can buy sea socks from Seda in California.
