I read the various posts here on this subject and came away with the
belief that the best kayak knife is one with a single serrated edge and
a blunt tip. This being the case, why not just buy a $2 Farberware
stainless steak knife with a plastic handle and round the point? All
you'd need in addition is an inexpensive sheath to attach to your PFD.
I tried one of mine and it cut 1/2" nylon line like butter.

Ken

Mostly because the first time you try to pry or leverage anything
with it you're going to snap the blade and/or break the handle. If you're
entangled in lines, you're going to need some leverage on the blade. Also,
you're going to have a difficult time finding a decent sheath that will
retain the knife and still allow fast, one-handed acccess.

Personally, my safety and assurance that I'm not going to find
myself in an entangled pinch without a reliable knife is worth a lot more
than $2.00. Like most things in life with the possible exception of designer
blue jeans. . . You get what you pay for.

        Geo.

Sorry, I did not read all the posts on knives and this may have been
mentioned, but the knife described here is a Dive Knife avaialable at any
Scuba shop.. they come in different sizes with either blunt or piointed
tip...they also come with sheath and straps that can attach the knife to your
leg, or PFD or to the deck ...
