Rick:

I know you can cross down near Lake Okechobee and I think there might be a
route through the Cedar Key / Ocala area using the old abandoned
Cross-Florida Barge Canal. but I won't swear to it. The most scenic route
would be to put in on the Atlantic side, paddle up the St. Mary's River
along the border of GA, then arrange a short shuttle from the St. Mary's to
the Suwanee River where it will be downhill all the way. If I remember
correctly that is a 225 mile route +/- and the scenery would be unequalled.
Any other route would involve man-made waterways along a major portion.

A possible route is from Sanibel, thru the Caloosahatchee River, then the
Caloosahatchee canal connects to Lake Okeechobee to the east coast via the
Saint Lucie canal. Comes out around Stuart, and you can go north or south from
there.
It goes thru some neat areas. You could start in Fort Myers and save a few
miles, but Sanibel has some great paddling, spectacular beaches. Check out the
diner in Labelle for the best home cooked meals around, say hi to "shu" for
me. Pretty trip, a few locks on the way for variety, decent fishin on the
lake.....
Check out chart # 11428 for details...

Another neat trip I took years ago was from Jacksonville to Sanford on the
Saint Johns River. Used to be really pretty.....
