[Paddlewise] waterproofing

I used to put clear contact paper (shelf lining my wife had) on maps.
Water would still get in the edges in heavy rains.  Some problem with
air bubbles -- but the method served well for many years.  Living in the
desert now, I don't bother.

I assume those interested are aware of Write-in-the-Rain paper &
notebooks used by foresters and surveyers

Field guides were mentioned.  I don't recall who asked the question or
where the asker lives.  But note that the U.S. Forest Service publishes
some local field guides & manuals on water resistant paper -- at least
in the Northwest.  The ones I have are in house pubs for employers and
contractors from the mid 1980's. (Guide to Common Forest Zone Plants --
Willamette, Mt.Hood, & Siuslaw NF, for example) But I assume they still
do that sort of thing.
