These lights are all good ideas, but you still have to act as though
everything out there is trying to hit you. You can't count on being
seen and recognized. The four times I've been hit on a bicycle, the car
or truck driver claimed never to have seen me - in fluorescent spandex.
Similarly, boat/ship traffic  doeesn't expect kayaks, therefore you don't
exist.
