I forgot to mention in all the gobbly guck around the COLREG rules, no matter what you do to be seen, assume you can't be seen. Don't depend on lights at all for your safety. Keep a sharp eye out. Don't be lulled by the beauty of the night into non-vigilence. Develop a swivel head.
