Fred.. Well, they charged me $20 to order the wimpy Icom M3 manual. Had it been me.. I would have passed, but I sent my dear wife to do the job and she, being so efficient, got the manual ordered. Then, as luck would have it, the old manual showed up as I was cleaning out my pickup. I had corresponded with Gronseth about his recommendations about a VHF... he had said that none of the VHF radios are "really" water proof. Thus, I got the slightly larger M3 and went to Boat US and got one of the waterproof plastic containers for it. It works just fine through the plastic. You might want a container for your own M1.
