>> Previously there was mention of 'PALM' PFD's as being an excellent choice. I have looked at stolquist and the female model (mens were not available so no wise cracks) of the Kokatat. Dave Kruger mentioned a while ago a PFD from a company that manufactures product for SAR. Can someone point me to that web Page for the SAR model especially PALM? Is the PALM PFD that good? There is an opinion by local(MEC-kayak) store personel that if a PFD is Class III and has US-Coast Guard Approved endorsement that Canadian Authorities will look the otherway if it does not have Canadaian DOT approval. Any opinion on this? Thanks, Philip >> ************************************************************************** * I really like my Palm 5-pocket PFD, but it is expensive (US $180) and it does not come in Canadian-approved colors (mine is cranberry with black and yellow accents and reflective tape, and that is the only color combination it comes in). So the color alone is likely to draw attention from the Canadian authorities. Also, though the Palms have agency approval in Europe, they do not have USCG approval because of the cost to the importer. There is a Canadian PFD in approved colors (orange and yellow) that has many of the design features of the Palm PFDs, including a rear pocket, and is half the price. However, I do not know who manufactures it. Palm PFDs are imported by Great River Outfitters: http://www.erols.com/rapids/GRO/ Chuck Holst *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Thu May 14 1998 - 07:43:26 PDT
