Dear List,

In less than a week I will be going to Los Angeles for a quick business
visit. I have an afternoon plus evening for paddling and am looking for an
outfitter to rent a boat from. (Yes Ralph, I really wish I owned a folder!!!)

I used to get mail from a place called Long Beach Water Sports but either
their phone number has changed (directory assistance and yoohoo don't know)
or they are out of business. Can anyone shed any light on this?

My business is in Sun Valley but I will most probably stay at a hotel near
LAX. Are there other outfitters you could recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Billl Leonhardt

Maybe try XStreamline Sports in San Pedro for some fairly serious kayak
action. If you just want to get wet, and a sit on top is fine, you might
try Basin "D" at Marina Del Rey. It's right next to the Cheesecake Factory.
There are a bunch of rent-by-the-hour folks operating out of trucks there.
Exploring Newport Harbor (long drive) is fun, and there are bars that you
can paddle up to, dock your 'yak, and go have some refreshment. Very
civilized. Southwind Kayaks in Irvine has a rental operation right on the
water.
