The fiberglass bulkhead in my Romany was custom-installed at the factory   three inches farther aft than normal. It is maybe 1/8-inch thick compared   to the 3-inch thick minicell mentioned above. Think of all the lost   storage space with the minicell!

The fiberglass bulkheads in my kayak have not caused any stress fractures   in the gelcoat. Maybe the Brits know how to do it right.
