Might for large volume boats, but there are several companies that make long,
tapered dry bags that will serve the purpose of flotation and/or carry dry
clothing, tents, etc., and still fit smaller boats like a Pintail. One
company I came across recently is Lochsa Connection --- think I referrenced
them a while back on a dry bag thread. E-mail is <lochsa_at_camasnet.com> and
web is <www.gorp.com/lochsa>. Good stuff, from the look of it. I have a
couple of SeaLine bags that I bought two years ago that work well, too. Using
larger bags might be difficult in that there will be a lot of friction in
sliding them in, and the ends may not have the flotation you'd like. And it's
nice to have multi-purpose equipment.
