Larry,
I currently have a Mariner Express and am considering a Mariner II. It
would seem to me that the Mariner II would be a superior day tripper/rough
water boat to the Nordkapp for the following reasons:
1) With the sliding seat it can be tuned to be neutral in any wind.
2) It is generally easier to turn.
3) It is more easily controlled in following seas and surf because it can
carve turns nicely on it chines.
4) It is more stable and comfortable, yet can be leaned very easily.

I think that speed/efficiency would be about comparable.

Why do you prefer your Nordkapp for rough conditions? Tippiness is not the
same as responsiveness.

Jerry
