>if that doesn't open up the other paddler ... well, >then you're paddling with someone who isn't very >responsible... i've found the most common thing i run >into is diabetes... Yes, that would be a very irresponsible paddler. A diabetic who does not share that they are a diabetic is a complete idiot - I am a diabetic by the way. Several years ago on a guided trip we were in rough windy conditions that were sapping my blood sugar levels. I signalled to one of the guides, we rafted up, ate a bunch of candy/energy foods, and kept on going. No problem. The exercise involved in kayaking, be it on the water or hauling gear around in camp, tends to drop my blood sugar fairly quickly. A diabetic needs to have the proper energy foods easily available. I like to keep a water bottle filled with strongly mixed tang on my deck to keep me going in rough condition - of course there is always the almond roca tucked away for when I *unfortunately* need an extra boost. ;-) Brian. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
