I was paddling the other day on the St. Johns River here in Fla., thinking I was in England with the smoke as thick with fog,I took out my knife and cut a hole in it to watch the woods burn on both sides of the river and the brave firefighters fighting the blazes when a helicopter hovered over me and lowered a bucket to fill with water and picked me up instead. Over the flames we flew and the I was dumped with the water on the flames. What a ride , boy it was hot, and the landing wasn't any fun either. Then a fire man told me I had to leave the area so back to the river I went dodging helicopters with buckets paddling in the smoke wishing I was on the computer instead. But durn some body has to do it.I guess the old professer would know what to do. To paddle in the fresh smoke and open tree less places with rining ashe, it don't get any better than this.I am about to head south and half the roads are closed, I wander if paddling the river south would be quicker than driving? hum I wonder. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Fri Jul 03 1998 - 05:47:16 PDT
