If I didn't paddle solo, I'd only get to go a few times a year and kayaking wouldn't be worth the effort to me. Yes, I'd rather paddle with a partner or a group, but I don't let the lack of company keep me off the water. I try not to take unnecessary risks, either solo or with others.
