[Paddlewise] Rolling a double, letting go of a boat

Double Sea Kayaks do roll easily, however, my advice is that you have talked
it through with your partner first. My first ever roll in a double sea
kayak was in an Aleut 11. We thought we would give it a try in a force 5, in
the Hebrides, Scotland. Unfortunately I went to set up on the left and my
partner set up to roll from the right, several attempts later we figured out
what was happening.

I have used doubles for trips in all conditions and with any level of
paddler. The advice in the UK would be to have the stronger paddler in the
stern and to act as lead. If the person in the bow doesn't have a good roll
ask them to lean forward as close to the deck as they can and roll the boat
from the rear, use a Pawlata if necessary.
