Hi George, Since I write for a living, "censorship" is very hot-button issue for me. However, I don't feel that not being able to say whatever the hell I feel like on a private list means I'm being censored. I think of a private list as somewhat akin to a club meeting in the real world. Our host, Jackie, has kindly invited us to (her? Jackie - I'm sorry, I'm not absolutely certain of your gender, and in a way that's a good thing about the web - it means people's opinions can be judged on their merit and not on the appearance of the speaker.) Anyway, Jackie has kindly invited all we keen kayakers to her home for a yak about yaks. We're sprawled throughout the living room and kitchen, drinking her beer and noshing her snacks. One of us gets carried away and begins a personal attack on another guest. Punting the miscreant (temporarily) out onto the street is hardly censorship. If this was the real world, I'd suggest an appropriate punishment for such incivility would be 50 lashes with a pool noodle (shades of Ann Landers). I've got a spare one here that I've been trying unsuccessfully to carve into a Greenland paddle… Cheers, Philip "The opinions expressed here are not necessarily those of my employer, or indeed, of any sentient being." **************************************** Mountain Equipment Co-op 1655 West 3rd Avenue, Vancouver, BC, Canada V6J 1K1 Tel: 640-732-1989 Fax: 604-731-6483 email: pid_at_mec.ca Visit our website at: http://www.mec.ca ***************************************** *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
