One of my good friends who is a paddle instructor (as well as other
instructors at the same shop paddle Sirius'. They did discover a problem
where the combing worked loose because of the constant stresses from the
hung seat. The new Sirius seas are an improvement over the older ones,
so they tell me. The Sirius is not a particularly fast boat, but is a
good rough water boat. They also complain about the paddle wells.

I'd also have a look at the new Nordkapp Jubilee. One of their
instructors recently switched from the Sirius to the Nordkapp and is
very pleased with it. I have had new Nordkapp for a few weeks now, and
find it more manageable and comfortable then the earlier Nordkapp. The
new Nordkapps use the P&H skeg.

Subject: [Paddlewise] Sirius

I'd consider a P&H Sirius to replace my Romany. I paddled one of these
the
other day and was moderately impressed. Its faster, rolls beautifully,
and
is supposed to be a great rough water boat although it may not be much
of a
surfer. The secondary stability was very impressive I thought. I also
love
the skeg design, its a 100% percent improvement over Romany.

Problem is:

1) they're so damn expensive ($2600++)
2) they apparently dont import (to the US) the Traditional model w/out
the
paddle recess. Since I use only homemade paddles/spares, I have little
use
for this feature. I have contacted P&H to see if they can be special
ordered, since the distributor didnt even know they made them, but I
havent
heard back yet.

I'd like to hear from people who have a Sirius, as to what they like or
dislike about them, or if there are any out there for sale that might be
reasonably priced.
