Gronseth pointed out to me that all waterproof binoculars have adjustable eyepieces on each lens.... Thus, they easily break down into two, monoculars. I bought a pair of Tasco 7X50's from Boat/US...at about $250. One side has a lighted compass making it useful as a hand bearing compass even at night. One set of binoculars and voila: my wife and I each have a monocular... we just fight over who gets the compass. Share the cost and cut down on the weight. Works fine for me. Robert PS. In a bouncy little boat, the lower power and the wide field of vision in the 7X50 IMHO, is the better choice. As light begins to fade, these are also useful in collecting light.
