Since I last reported the flooding of my VHF radio several weeks ago, I received a letter from Icom suggesting I return it to my dealer and work out a return with them... and they would pick up the radio from the dealer. The ICOM M3A was returned to Boat/U.S. No hasle.. and I'm a bit wiser about the water-resistant status of marine radios. Water-resistant doesn't have much meaning. Hopefully, the JIS-7 designation will prove to be a bit better. Incidentally, "Corrosion proof" the M3A isn't either. If it is corrosion proof...the only metal exposed to saltwater will be gold. The Apelco 520 has gold contacts on the radio, while the battery pack has a nickel or stainless steel colored metal. Presumably, the gold will prove to be a more suitable metal to use in the saltwater environment. Thank you all for your many suggestions.
