Since the discussion on Kayaking Compasses a few mos. ago, I have been
using a Ritchie Sportabout. The Sportabout not only doubles as a
handbearing compass... and is easily carried to the campsite if necessary,
but it features night lighting. A big plus in my book. The light source
is a Mini-Type A-Calume stick. These are difficult to find, but can be
ordered directly from Ritchie. In fact, direct from Ritchie is the ONLY
source I have been able to find for these sticks.

When I first bought my Kayak, I though I would like to have a deck mounted
compass. The sportabout, especially with its interanal night lighting is a
better solution for me.

Here's the source for the calumet sticks:

Ritchie Navigation
E. S. Ritchie & Sons, Inc.
243 Oak St.
Pembroke, MA 548 02359

781-826-7336 Fax

Part No. for a four pack of lightsticks for the Ritchie Sportabout is
RS-0051-4. Cost is $9.00 plus shipping (approx. $2.00).

It took awhile to find this item. Thought you might like to know.

Robert
