Hello List,

I know from past posts that some of you have paddled in Maine so I'm asking
for a little info. I am travelling up there with my wife in a little over
a week from now and we are staying in Kennebunc (sp?). We will be bringing
our sea kayaks. We will be meeting friends there as well. My questions are:

1. Are there any outfitters in that area that my friends can rent boats,
etc. from?

2. Any recommended areas near there for paddling?

Any info is greatly appreciated....

Bill..... I paddle in that area often and am not aware of any place to
rent boats in the Ken. area. I think there are places in Portland to
get some.
In Kenneb. you have many choices to paddle depending on wind, tides, fog
and skill lever. My favorites are:
1. Cape Porpoise to Goose Rocks Beach and return. Great seal watching
at or near low tide.
2. Kenn. north to Cape Porpoise with a stop to gawk at George Bush's
castle on the coast.
3. York Harbor to Nubble Light and back.
4. Biddeford Pool to Wells beach and back.
You can also take the drive north to Casco bay or south to Portsmouth
and have numerous opportunities at each area.

Let me know if you need any further information.

Bill,
Kennebunk, Maine and points north is home to the Southern Maine Sea
Kayaking Network. Kennebunk has an interesting harbor but other than that,
there's not much. Just north is Biddeford and Biddeford Pool which has some
interesting spots. The great kayaking, though, runs from Portland north,
about 35 miles north of Kennebunk. You also could try Portsmouth, New
Hampshire, a little south of Kennebunk.
I'll send your inquiry along to some of the Network members that
live in the Kennebunk area and that have email. They may be able to answer
your questions in more detail.
