RE: [Paddlewise] radio bags

I'm using an Aqua-Safe bag from West Marine for my GPS unit that has
given me no problems so far, and I just ordered two Aqua-Safe radio
bags for Linda's and my Icoms. This is the type with the slide-on clip.
I looked at the Aqua-Pac at REI, but the clamshell seal mechanism was
too bulky and complicated for my taste.

Missed you on the water last night. I paddled with Duane and with Rick
Grigar, and we had an interesting discussion about safety issues.

BTW, Dale Hedtke and Amy Brooks are having a grand opening party for
their new store, the Boat House, between 6:00 and 10:00 tonight at 937
West 7th St., Saint Paul. I hear it's a supply store for people who
like to build their own boats. Linda and I will be there at 6:00, since
she has to be at the MCA board meeting at 7:00. Knowing how Dale likes
to build stitch and glue kayaks, I'm sure there will be lots of marine
plywood, but maybe we can persuade him to carry materials for skin
boats, too.

Found a copy of F. Spencer Chapman's _Watkins' Last Expedition_ through
Bibliofind (http://www.bibliofind.com/) yesterday. The store that had it
was in Stillwater, of all places. (Hint: to find it on Bibliofind, you
have to put the apostrophe in the wrong place.)

I purchased a Standard radio last fall from US Boat. I also purchased a
dry bag from US Boat. The bag had a slide on clip similar to the clip on
the bottom of a reusable food tube. That clip lasted for 2 trips and maybe
half a dozen dry runs. I attempted to return it to US Boat with no
success, no receipt = no return. I subsequently purchased an Aqua-pac dry
bag at REI. I have not used the new bag on the water, however the seal
mechanism looks a lot more substantial. The instructions with the bag warn
about testing the bag for leaks before initial use and before each use.
Testing amounts to putting excess air in the bag and squeezing it under
water so you can see leaks. REI did not have the bag in stock, they called
the manufacturer with my radio dimensions and it arrived in a couple of
days.
