Ed,
I paddled out there 3 years ago in August.  There is good reception in the
area for VHF.
Don't count on the fresh water you see on the chart.  Bring plenty of
water.  We made that mistake and were lucky to meet kind people who shared.
 The water refers to ponds.  At the least you will need to filter and
purify, and that is still very risky, if there is any water there at all.

Almost all the islands are lovely and campsites plentiful. Be aware of high
tide, and be kind to the environment.  By the way, there is a fee of $5 per
person (at least when I was there).  

Enjoy.  It is a magnificent place.
