><< I carved out a assymetrical paddle , 1 piece from a 2 X 6 red cedar >> > >Did you really mean asymetrical? Not symetrical side to side? Yeah, that's the one, irregular shape with top and bottom of blade... How did I get it down on wood..??? Was at Totem [outdoor store into kayaking...] and Mopuntain equipment coop and all the paddles I touched and liked were around 250 to 390. CDN [ still peanut change in USD] just figured it was too expensive to go with a S & G I was just fininhing... I just asked the store lady to get me a marker and cardboard and traced the one I liked best [ Eddyline I think] came home and traced it on the 2 X 6 , I also traced the outer edges on the flat side of the 2 X ^ to get me me tip curvature, and slowly ground it down wih my Makita mini grinder with flex pad [ 50 grit]... When I started getting a bit thin, I started hand sanding... piece of cake this red cedar... I wonder how it is going to work with Teak or mohogany ...or what kind of crazy wood I will find to carve out when I am in Viet Nam...Maybe cinnamn wood would be nice, coould always use it to stir my morning coffee... have fun Yours naturally sylvio lamarche Wycliffe organic gardens & Exotic locales all over the globe *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
