Bob:

I am not sure what you mean by "critical." I seem to get more "purchase"
with the Lightening paddle (standard touring model) which makes for easier
sculling *and* rolling than the Midswift.

I had written Tom Derrer and asked about the surface area of the Midswift.
He said that they hadn't done any calculations on it. (??) It might be
helpful if one could compare aspect ratios to surface areas. I only know
by the paddling, not too much by the numbers, although I am attempting to
learn.

The Midswift is an easier paddle pull through the water, but has the feel
of less purchase. To me, this suggests the notion and feel of a weaker
brace. The Midswift is also heavier... significantly heavier in my
opinion.

Hank Hays might have some of the numerical analogies available for the two
paddles.

My Midswift has now been delegated to spare paddle status.

Robert
