Anyone who doesnt evacuate when a storm approaches deserves what they get. Georges, at least for the Keys, was a minor storm. Had it had time to strengthen to cat 3 or higher, they would have died. Plain, simple statement of the facts, and dead is dead. The people who stayed accomplished nothing. You can't, in the middle of the storm, try to save your boat (ask the guy who tried to save a small sailboat, now been helicoptered to Miami with a broken neck. Helicopter flight cost more than boat!), you car, or your house. You can leave, and save yourself and your loved ones, and live to tell the tale.... <<Just look at how many people stayed in the Keys. Also ask those who did, how many will do it again.>> The ones I have talked to wont! <<Key west was lucky, if the storm had been stronger, or had gone a bit more west, people (maybe lots of people) would have died.>> Eye of storm passed directly over Key west..... <<BTW Does anyone have good numbers as to how long it would take to completely evacuate Key West? I would guess 2 days or more.>> Key West or the Keys? Big difference Scott Tired o shoveling sand and dead critters in the Keys *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
